J. Edward Burket, age 80, 3605 First Street, Bloomsburg, PA (Almedia) died at 12:41 p. m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA, where he was admitted Tuesday.

Born on April 9, 1938 in Martinsburg, he was a son of the late Elvin and Mary (Dilling) Burket. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Morrison Cove High School in Martinsburg. He also attended the former Williamsport Trade School.

Ed resided in Bloomsburg since 1957 when he began employment with the Press Enterprise newspaper, where he worked until retiring in 1999. Following retirement he continued to be employed by the Press Enterprise on a part time basis as needed and in recent years was also employed at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service as a funeral assistant.

He was a member of the Shiloh Bible Church, Almedia where he sang in the choir. Previously, he was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for 50 years, where he also sang in the choir. He was a talented soloist and frequently sang at funerals and weddings over the years.

Ed was a 50 year member of BHS and sang in various quartets over the years, most recently with New Found Sound. He also was a member of the Columbia-Montour Chapter and the Lewisburg Chapter, and was an officer on various Chapters and the District.

He served with the U. S. Army and also the Army Reserves.

Ed is survived by his wife, the former Janet Fiedler, with whom he observed a 59th wedding anniversary on October 11, 2017; two daughters: Amy J., wife of Daniel W. Yeager, Catawissa and Brenda S., wife of Donald D. McCaulley, Bellwood; five grandchildren: Joshua Yeager; Jason Yeager, and his wife Ashley; Jessica, wife of Thomas Condron; Eric Anello; and Kevin Anello; three great granddaughters: Olivia, Lydia and Clara; a brother, Rodney Burket, and his wife Shirley, Martinsburg; and a nephew, Stephen Burket.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at 11 am in the Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church Street, Bloomsburg, PA with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon officiating. Interment located in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewings were held at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
