Paul Douglass, II

Paul began directing his first choir at the age of 16, after receiving personal training at Grove City College. He continued directing through high school and singing in local gospel quartets. He went on to receive music education degrees from Eastern Nazarene College, with a concentration in voice, and from the University of Maryland with a concentration in choral conducting. Formal directing mentors included Roger Folstrom, Paul Traver, Paul Rardin, Robert Brown, Robert Howard, Brady Millican and Greg Larkin. Paul took workshops with master composers / musicians / directors Harry Simone, Steve Zegree, John Jacobson, Roger Emerson and John Rutter.

Paul has directed HS choirs in Ambridge, Pa, Somerset, Pa. and in Calvert County, Md. He developed the two high school choirs of eight members into the respected Cavalier Chorus consistently receiving superior and excellent ratings at festivals and competitions.

While at Calvert High School, Paul was also the technical director managing the technical aspects of the auditorium and working with such names as Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Sabella Consort and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He was either the technical director or music director for theatre productions such as Damn Yankees, Brigadoon, Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, Grease, West Side Story, Oklahoma, Godspell, and many more.

Paul began his formal barbershop experience singing lead and/or baritone with the Roof Garden Chorus in Somerset, Pa where he eventually became the director. Once moving to Southern Maryland he took over the directorship of the Southern Maryland Sound. Summer of 2012, Paul agreed to take over the position as director of Southern Mix.

Paul is currently teaching for Calvert County Public Schools, and on the Adjunct Faculty at the College of Southern Maryland.

Paul has been blessed to have many experiences but he is still just another average guy that loves to sing barbershop.
