Jay George (Jay) Spangenburg, 73, a resident at Leisure Acres, Lycoming County, PA, died Monday, December 28, 2015, at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC.

Born August 8, 1942 in Hazleton, PA, Jay was the son of Maurice Robert and Beatrice Susana Wright Spangenburg, both deceased. He graduated West Hazleton High School, Franklin Marshall School for Radiology, and Saint Joseph’s School of Respiratory Therapy.

Spangenburg served as head of the Respiratory Therapy Department of the Williamsport Hospital for several years. He had worked in home oxygen therapy with Wasserotts & Hub Surgical and owned Spangenburg Engravers.

Jay was a member of the Pine Street United Methodist Church in Williamsport and enjoying singing in the church choir. He also enjoyed barbershop harmony singing with the West Branch Barbershop Chorus, the Spring Street Four quartet, the Leisure Acres Quartet, and the Barnstormers Men’s Chorus. He also was a volunteer and amateur actor with the Community Theatre League of Williamsport.

He enjoyed camping and served as a Youth Fellowship Counselor at Pine Street United Methodist and was active as a Montgomery Band Parent during his daughters’ school years. He and his wife Gloria both served as judges for the South Williamsport Mummers Parade.

Jay is survived by his wife Floria, his daughters Kristie Marie (Eric) Ravert of Montgomery and Kimberley Sue (Dustin) Morgan of Wake Forest, NC, two brothers, Benjamin of Conyngham and William of West Hazleton, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Pine Street United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Wildwood Cemetary.
