Chapters seeking Front-Line Directors:
  • Harmony Express

Harmony Express Chorus, the Germantown, MD, chapter of the BHS, is seeking a new director. Our current director is stepping down soon, and we're looking for a talented, enthusiastic, and dedicated director to continue the great work that he did with the chorus. Our mission is *fun through excellence*, and we seek a director who will help us achieve it. We have an aggressive music plan in place, a very experienced assistant director, and enthusiastic singers who want the chorus to improve. The director would direct the musical portion of weekly meetings, as well as public and contest performances. He would be an active member of the music team, which selects the music, sets musical goals, and monitors individual and chorus progress. If possible, the director would provide individual vocal coaching during weekly rehearsals.

Harmony Express meets Sunday evenings in Gaithersburg, MD. Our performances are mostly in Montgomery County. The chapter would fund training and other BHS activities aimed at increasing the director's effectiveness, as well as contest expenses.

  • Keystone Capital Chorus

Keystone Capital Chorus (Harrisburg, PA) is saying goodbye to Bob Bennett, director of the chorus for eight years. Bob is leaving to pursue other opportunities and performance venues with The Baltimore Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Bob leaves behind many friends and will be missed for his dedication to the men and women of the chorus.

We wish Bob the very best and will begin a search for a replacement director to take the 25-member chorus into the coming years. The search for a director will open the door for interested individuals to direct an established chorus, and to develop and expand the music, performance and competition aspects of The Keystone Capital Chorus.

Members of the chorus come principally from Cumberland, Dauphin, York and Lebanon counties of central Pennsylvania. They compete in the Mid-Atlantic District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. At their 2019 Division contest the chorus won their plateau championship and received most improved chorus distinction for the Central Division.

  • The Big Apple Chorus
The Big Apple Chorus is a storied a capella chorus formed in New York City in 1983 and a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We are looking for a new director to replace our current leader, who has been called away by his day job. The Chorus rehearses in midtown NYC, and is a vibrant group of 20 plus active singers, men and women. In the past the Chorus repertoire has been themed as 'bringing the best of barbershop to Broadway and the best of Broadway to barbershop' and we have recently added classic and contemporary rock and pop music.

Candidates should preferably have barbershop harmony experience, and we will also entertain someone with choral director training who is energetic and will be committed to our ensemble, someone with a vision for growth in music and attracting membership, while preserving our musical excellence. He/she should also realize that fellowship is an important part of the tradition of barbershop and our Chorus. Responsibilities include planning and conducting weekly rehearsals, Society competitions and paid performances. Please contact Bruce Poehlman at 818-912-1866 or bpoehlman@aol.com with a resume listing directing experience, skills, and vocal/choral training so we can set up an interview and a conducting audition in front of the Chorus. This is a paid position with a modest weekly stipend.
