Chorus PlateausPlateaus are based on the average percentile results of a chorus's two previous contests within the last four years. Plateau winners are recognized in the spring.Friendly competitionSince the score is based on your previous two scores, it gives your chorus an award to aspire for when competing "with yourself". It also groups you with other choruses at a similar level based on your recent trend. This opportunity offers some "friendly competition" to compare choruses at a similar level, independent of the overall division chorus champion awarded to the top-scoring chorus that day.Current plateausSee the current plateaus for active choruses. Different choruses, different destinationsPlateaus give division-bound choruses a worthy award to aspire for, since it is not simply awarded to the overall chorus. All choruses are eligible for Division, where we recognize plateau winners. Not all of them will qualify to compete in the fall. But we can still celebrate their progress (plateau winners, most improved) without focusing strictly on competition (champions) . For division-bound choruses, the season ends at division (one contest). Those that qualify for District compete for the District Championship and the chance to qualify for BHS International. Not all of them will qualify to compete in the following summer. For district-bound choruses, their season ends at division (two contests). Those that qualify for International next summer compete for the International Chorus Championship on the biggest stage of all. These choruses also receive a bye (pass) for the next spring's division contest, so we don't recognize Plateau AAAAA winners in the spring. This also means that international-bound choruses enter a pattern of only competing in two contests per year. Any chorus in the Mid-Atlantic District only needs to participate in at most two contests per year (spring/fall or (fall/summer), which reduces the financial and time burden on participants. Of course, we welcome all choruses in the spring, but we understand other plans (shows, tours) may get in the way.
