Contest Awards

Mid-Atlantic District contests offer many awards for achieving success in the District.

Depending on the season and the event, you may be eligible for one or more awards. These awards are different from preliminary qualifiers, which typically occur alongside Mid-Atlantic contests.

Most awards are administered through BHS Contest Entry through Member Center. See the awards listed there for the official description and eligibility.

Division

Awards in the spring are designated for the current year. Groups must compete within their associated division to be eligible for their division's awards.

Division Champion

  • The highest scoring quartet competing in division shall be the Division Quartet Champion.
  • The highest scoring chorus competing in division shall be the Division Chorus Champion.
  • A group can win this award multiple times and in consecutive years.

Division Seniors Quartet Champion

  • The highest scoring Seniors Quartet in division shall be the Division Seniors Quartet Champion.
  • Eligibility for a seniors quartet is based on Society Contest rules.
  • A group can win this award multiple times and in consecutive years.

Division Novice Quartet Champion

  • The highest scoring Novice Quartet shall be acknowledged as the Division Novice Quartet Champion.
  • A novice quartet cannot have more than two experienced quartetters.
  • A group cannot win this award multiple times.

Most Improved Division Chorus

  • The division chorus showing the most improvement shall be the Most Improved Chorus.
  • The improvement is based on the current and previous year's contests (spring to spring).
  • A chorus can win this award multiple and in consecutive years.

Division Plateau Chorus Winner

  • The highest scoring chorus in each score-based plateau shall be the Plateau Chorus Winner.
  • Plateaus (A, AA, AAA, AAAA) are determined by the VP C&J and can change each year.
  • A group can win this multiple times and in consecutive years.

Qualifiers

  • Besides, competing for Division awards, all groups can also sign up for MAD District Qualifier for the opportunity to sing in the fall.
  • Quartets can also compete for the BHS International Preliminary Quartet Qualifier to sing at International that summer.
  • Seniors Quartets can also compete for the BHS International Preliminary Seniors Quartet Qualifier to sing at Midwinter next winter.

District

Awards in the fall are designated for the following year. District awards are across the District, and groups must compete within their District to be eligible for these awards.

District Champion

  • The highest scoring quartet shall be the District Quartet Champion. The quartet cannot win this award multiple times.
  • The highest scoring chorus shall be the District Chorus Champion. A chorus can win this multiple times and in consecutive years.

District Senior Quartet Champion

  • The highest scoring seniors quartets (from the spring) shall be the District Seniors Quartet Champion.
  • The award shall be presented at the District Convention alongside other District awards.
  • A quartet can win this multiple times and in consecutive years.

Most Improved District Chorus

  • The chorus showing the most improvement each year shall be named the Most Improved Chorus.
  • The improvement is based on the current year's contests (spring to fall).
  • A group can win this multiple times and in consecutive years.

Qualifiers

  • Besides, competing for District awards, choruses can also sign up for the
  • BHS International Preliminary Chorus Qualifier to sing at International next summer.
